    Interwiki translation and CC license

    [edit]

I noticed that the Uzbek Wikipedia article Ovoz yozuviga boʻlgan mualliflik huquqi is a translation of an English Wikipedia article that I wrote, Sound recording copyright, but the original English article is not credited anywhere. The Uzbek page was created on 27 May 2026, so it is currently within the 30-day window during which a license violation can be cured. I don't speak Uzbek and haven't contributed to Uzbek Wikipedia at all.

How can I address this issue? I've drafted a message in English to post on the user's talk page (but haven't posted it yet), aiming to politely educate them about the CC license's attribution requirements. But should I also get an admin on Uzbek Wikipedia involved (especially if the user has submitted a lot of translations in this manner)? Qzekrom (she/her • talk) 16:09, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:RIA. The only thing which really needs to be done is to supply the appropriate attribution. You might see if there's an Uzbek editor at the WP:EMBASSY who can help with that, or just use google translate to put the attribution in the edit history of the uzbek article yourself. Athanelar (talk) 17:13, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Done after somehow figuring out where the link to the enwiki article should go in the summary. CheeseAndJamSamdwich (talk) 19:45, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks! Qzekrom (she/her • talk) 16:32, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can see Wikipedia:Translation links to uz:Vikipediya:Tarjima, which does not have a section on Attribution requirements. TSventon (talk) 16:45, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That's not good. Could be indicative of a systemic issue that the uzwiki admins should be aware of - editors there may be unaware that they are violating copyright when they copy from enwiki articles without attribution (ironically, this happened with an article about copyright). New article

    [edit]

Hi, I'm returning to Wiki after a long time. I started an article but I think on my userpage. Now I can't find it. Can anyone help? Case Against (talk) 18:43, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

This is your new article? VitorFriboquen :] (Talk) 18:54, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Case Against. You don't have any contributions other than this post and the post at your talk page. Did you edit whilst logged out? Did you press Publish page? Publish page is akin to "Save" in Microsoft Word. Wikipedia doesn't have an auto-save feature. If you didn't click Public page then I am afraid your work is lost and can not be recovered. qcne (talk) 19:16, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I suspected the same. Back to the drawing board. I didn't press publish page because I hadn't finished. Do you recommend starting in the sandbox? Case Against (talk) 19:18, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Case Against Darn, I am sorry. That is frustrating but it is pretty common. We recommend keeping an off-Wiki backup. You can start in your personal sandbox, or as a sub-page under your Userpage, or as a draft via WP:Articles for Creation. qcne (talk) 19:24, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yes there is nothing worse than running with the ball without saving. Second time lucky. Many thanks. Case Against (talk) 21:35, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Completed an article in my sandbox. HOw do I move it to be approved? Case Against (talk) 22:38, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I moved your draft to Draft:Norma Procter and submitted it for review for you. Right now, the backlog is pretty long, so it may take 3 months or more, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order. There are 4,616 pending submissions waiting for review. SomeoneDreaming (talk) 02:54, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That is very kind of you @SomeoneDreaming I really appreciate your help. Case Against (talk) 14:26, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Also how to I jump in to helping with reviews? Randomly I saw one today that I thought was really good and relevant. Shall I post it here so someone with more experience can take a look or what is the process so I can do so? Case Against (talk) 14:37, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You can apply to become a Articles for Creation reviewer once you meet the criteria. We're always on the lookout for new reviewers so do check in once you meet the criteria to see if you can be accepted probationary! qcne (talk) 14:43, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Qcnethat makes sense. If I see a draft article that looks okay to me can I mention it in a thread? Anything to do with performance, Wales and Latin America are my thing so sometimes I have an eye for what is authentic. Case Against (talk) 15:08, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if something like Asociación de Artes Escénicas del Valle de Chubut exists. :) (though I'm not sure if you meant the performing-arts kind of performance or the fast-cars kind of performance) TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 01:43, 19 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Probably. What do you think? Case Against (talk) 01:56, 19 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be a convenient all-in-one combination of "performance, Wales, Latin America". That's all. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 02:07, 19 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Case Against Since you have been away for a while, do you know how to verify references, and are you familiar with all of the notability guidelines at WP:N? If so, great, but it takes a while to learn. I have a moderate number of edits, but I don't feel comfortable reviewing articles. David10244 (talk) 05:54, 19 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @David10244 - it is all a learning curve. I've just added more references so let's see. Case Against (talk) 18:33, 20 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Case Against I meant that in relation to your desire to become a new article reviewer. David10244 (talk) 02:28, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    New company wikipedia

    [edit]

I am part of a newly formed company and I want to create a wikipedia page. We have an old page for our previous product but we want a new page for this new product. Is this a conflict of interest? Andreacutright (talk) 19:33, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, creating an article (not a 'page') for a company and/or product you are involved with absolutely involves a conflict of interest. And note that we really aren't interested in what you want. Wikipedia is an online encyclopaedia, not an advertising platform, and whether we chose to have an article on a specific topic is determined by the subject's notability, as demonstrated through in-depth coverage in independent published reliable sources. Likewise the content of the article itself must be based around such sources. And note that not only will you not have any control over what an article on your company and/or product says, but per our WP:CoI policy, you will be expected declare your CoI explicitly, and to make proposals regarding content rather than editing the article yourself. AndyTheGrump (talk) 19:43, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Andreacutright See WP:Advice for paid editors. I'd also appreciate if you could direct us to the old page for our previous product so that we can take a look at it. Athanelar (talk) 08:26, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

New to wiki. Possible conflict of interest for possible new person of notability article?

    [edit]

Hi, I am a new editor to Wiki. I used to be a paid employee of an organization but am now just a volunteer. As a volunteer, I have been asked to try to get a Wiki article on my organization's CEO as a person of notability. Is this still a major conflict? What do you think my chances are of getting an article if I disclose this connection? Thanks! Martinique24 (talk) 20:37, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on what relationship you have to the organisation now, but it sounds like a conflict of interest to me.
The fact that you have a conflict of interest doesn't inherently make an article you write less likely to be accepted; when reviewing an article (which will be done, as all new CoI articles must go through articles for creation), the main factors taken into account are:
As long as you ensure the article meets those criteria, you have a high likelihood of it being accepted. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs|in solidarity}} 20:42, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It depends on what relationship you have to the organisation now, but it sounds like a conflict of interest to me.
As far as I know, "a relationship" is already a conflict of interest, regardless of what kind or what level of relationship. In addition, "former employee" is a very close relationship, even including a former employee who now hates their former employer. ("Close but in a bad way" would describe such a relationship.) TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 18:08, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you still have a conflict of interest. Volunteer work can also still be paid editing because volunteers usually put the experience on their resumes, making the experience the "payment". 331dot (talk) 21:11, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

4 months and article still has noindex tag

    [edit]

Hello I created an article 4 months ago and it still has the noindex tag. Shouldn’t it be removed after 90 days?Extended phase graph NathanBeaumont (talk) 22:12, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I do not see that the article has the NOINDEX magic word in it's raw content. Could you point it out if you see it? --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 22:21, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The article doesn't appear to have a noindex tag (it has <meta name="robots" content="max-image-preview:standard"> in the html, which would contain noindex if it was noindexed), Google just haven't indexed it yet. Wikipedia:Controlling search engine indexing suggests making any edit to see if this fixes it. Danski454 (talk) 22:25, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
OK I’ve made a minor edit to see if Google indexes it now. NathanBeaumont (talk) 02:31, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@NathanBeaumont: Extended phase graph is indexed by Google now. Always state your real goal and not just something you think is needed (XY problem). It was me who added the tip to Wikipedia:Controlling search engine indexing so it's nice to see it works. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:48, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
My bad not realizing the noindex tag was already gone. I confirmed the page is now indexed on Google thanks guys. NathanBeaumont (talk) 14:10, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

How do I nominate a redirect for deletion?

    [edit]

I've got more than 35K edits, but it's been a while, and I've forgotten how to do this. Crystal Rae redirects to an article that does not mention her, or have anything to do with her. How do I nominate this for deletion? How do I access the link page rather than the targeted page? ubiquity (talk) 08:38, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

When you arrive at the redirect target, you should see text near the top that says "Redirected from Crystal Rae"; click on the link and it will take you to the Crystal Rae redirect page. 331dot (talk) 08:44, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Ubiquity: There is usually a reason for a redirect even if the target doesn't currently show it. A search shows her body was both called Racine County Jane Doe and Crystal Rae before being identified. Consider adding "or Crystal Rae" instead of deleting the redirect. Hello, @~2026-36241-80. Thank you for your suggestion.
Wikipedia is not a news outlet - we haven't got a paid staff who will keep articles about developing events up to date, so we don't attempt to.
If you were an established editor I would suggest that you make an edit request, but as an unregistered new editor, you are not permitted to edit or even take part in a discussion on articles in contentious topics. ColinFine (talk) 12:15, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You're still allowed to make edit requests to contentious topics as a non-extended-confirmed user, but that's the only way you're allowed to discuss them. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs|in solidarity}} 12:31, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I would say casualties in the conflict are a contentious issue and not something a non-EC user should request- but it does depend on the specifics. 331dot (talk) 18:55, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Amaka of God you don't need to reply as the message is automatic. The BusinessDay reference in Saburi Biobaku included |last=BusinessDay . Translation template for words with grammatical gender variation in context?

    [edit]

I was curious if there is a template or standardized treatment for introducing a non-English term with grammatical gender, wherein I want to introduce multiple genders at once: specifically I am working on a page wherein I want to introduce men and women in the trokiando subculture - takuaches and takuchitas - simultaneously as self-identifying terms. Publishing a Page

    [edit]

I want to publish a page about an AI security company named Aurascape. But I don't know what steps to take first. https://aurascape.ai/ Biglal (talk) 18:36, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Useful steps are in WP:Your first article. But you need a step 0: if you are connected to this company in any way, you need to read WP:COI and follow the steps in there to declare conflict of interest. If you are paid for this, or are an employee of the company, you also need to read WP:PAID and follow the steps in there.
Most companies can't have Wikipedia articles due to lack of secondary sources (independent, reliable outside coverage). I suggest looking for sources before you write a single word: get them together, look at them as objectively as you can, decide if they meet criteria. If not, there's no point spending time writing, as the article will be rejected or deleted. M kuhner (talk) 18:44, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to state first and foremost that creating a new article is a monumental task when you are starting out. Learning the ins and outs of wikipedia takes time and can be done by trying out newcomer tasks and reading help pages, or trying out the wikipedia adventure to start learning more advanced editing techniques. You will have a rough time trying to get an article on this subject approved - nearly all the sources I could find do not fulfill the source reliability criteria, that is, they are all trivial coverage talking about how much money has been invested into this company. -- Reconrabbit (talk) 20:18, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello, @Biglal.
If you are in any way connected to this company, I suggest you read WP:BOSS, and show it to your boss. (Even if you are not, you may find it a useful read). ColinFine (talk) 20:39, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am editing the North West article and noticed that it currently carries the notice stating that the article has an advertising or promotional tone. We would like to understand which specific parts of the article are considered promotional. The article has been revised to remove marketing language and to present the company's history, activities, and projects in a neutral and encyclopedic manner. Could you please advise whether the tag can be removed, or indicate which sections still require improvement to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view and content guidelines? You have edited another language Wikipedia- each language Wikipedia is a separate project, you will need to ask your question there, because each Wikipedia has its own policies as to what is acceptable. 331dot (talk) 09:32, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Northwest2007. In answer to your question: it is often not an issue of specific words or phrases, but the tone of much of the article.
Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost exclusively interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources.
If an article is, or reads as if it is, what the subject wants people to know about them, then it is promotional. The article should tell what people unconnected with the subject have published about it - good and bad - not what the subject wants people to know. ColinFine (talk) 09:42, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    [edit]

it's not my own profile but for a person I have authority to do edit. the photo is old from 2011 on the German page and I want to upload and update the photo Nikipham (talk) 13:07, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello, @Nikipham.
For advice on the German Wikipedia, you should ask there: try de:Wikipedia:Fragen zur Wikipedia.
But since you're almost certainly going to want to use Wikipedia Commons, I suggest you look at C:Help:Upload .
Note that images uploaded to Commons must be free to reuse, so it's not enough for the copyright owner to give permission for the image to be used on Wikipedia: they must license it under an acceptable licence. (If you took the picture yourself, then you are probably the copyright owner, and can license it "on the fly"). ColinFine (talk) 13:23, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @ColinFine @Gråbergs Gråa Sång. I'm able to figure how to upload a file but not sure how it works so that the photo is updated on the German Wikipedia as well as the English one of the person's page. Nikipham (talk) 16:12, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Nikipham If the article has an infobox, you do it like so:[1]. If not, File:Matthias Hentze 2020.jpg has a link at the top, "Use this file" on a wiki, click that and use the provided code. But I don't know if you can edit German WP articles at this point, you might have to ask someone there to do it for you. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:33, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Nikipham If you have contact with the subject or photographer, Wikipedia:A picture of you has helpful guidance too. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:06, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    One more point, @Nikipham.
You said "I have authority to do edit".
    This is meaningless on Wikipedia.
With certain restrictions, anybody may edit any article, and absolutely nobody has any special "authority" over a particular article.
Your wording suggests that the subject of the article may have given you "authority". If that is the case, then you probably have a conflict of interest, and have less standing to edit the article than most people, not more. If you indeed have a conflict of interest, then on English Wikipedia you should not edit the article directly, but should instead make edit requests. I am not familiar with the policies and practices on German Wikipedia, so I don't know how far that is true there. ColinFine (talk) 18:08, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Updating A Profile Picture

    [edit]

Hi - I am trying to update a profile picture for someone. I am authorized to use the image and in order to complete the copyright license they need this information. Particularly number 2, who can I contact to get this information and make sure I have all the correct permissions?

With respect to Wikipedia, what I need to complete the copyright license is as follows:

    1. Name of Project
    2. Name and title of person signing the copyright license from Wikipedia
    3. Email address of signer
    4. The legal company name of Wikipedia
    5. Company address

    MarenCole (talk) 18:27, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The simplest way to add a new photo is to take one with the person's permission and to allow it to have a Creative Commons license. If the photo is copyrighted things become more complicated, as photos of a living person generally should not be fair use.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:35, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
This would be something that is cleared to use and download, both by the photographer and the subject. I know it may be a bit more complicated but what is the best way to go about it? MarenCole (talk) 18:39, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@MarenCole: You having the authorisation means absolutely nothing, as you are not the one hosting the image. Wikipedia would need the permission, and as Ianmacm hints at above we do not even attempt to use fair-use images of living people and thus wouldn't bother to seek that permission in the first place. You're wasting your time trying to fill out that copyright release. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v Object Class: Drygioni 18:44, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

As stated in one of the threads above, Wikipedia:A picture of you explains the best way to go about this. There would be a problem with a wedding photograph type of situation if the photographer or the subject wanted to retain the copyright. It's best to start fresh with an image that has Creative Commons licensing, as this can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons straight away and without any problems.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:46, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, any idea where would be the best place to weigh in this update that puts a photo gallery at the top of mobile pages. I'm all for it, mostly, but there's one tweak that would keep me personally from losing my mind LOL and I wanted to just add it to the feedback queue if one exists. Please and thank you!!

    Search within article

    [edit]

I understand how to use the Search Box to find an article but, having found an article, I don't know how to search within an article. Some articles are quite lengthy and although contents may guide one to the desired information, that doesn't always help. For a trivial example - I was trying to find out if the new Supergirl film was in 3D? If I could have searched on 3D within Supergirl (2026 film), that would have saved me having to read the entire article to find out there is no mention of it. I often run into a similar problem. How can I search within an article? ~2026-36615-10 (talk) 06:09, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @~2026-36615-10, and welcome to the Help Desk! There's no way to search within a page itself, but most web browsers have a built in "find in this page" function that should work. If you're on a laptop/pc, then pressing Ctrl F will bring it up. If on mobile, it's usually found in the browser settings. In solidarity, nil nz 06:15, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Technically a search of "query prefix:fullpagename" (i.e. something like "3d prefix:Supergirl (2026 film)") can get you close in the sense of searching a specific page (or handful of pages that have the same start of title, so something like "3d prefix:Supergirl" would capture other pages because multiple pages start with that)... but it's more trouble than it's probably worth compared to just using the find function that comes with your browser. - Purplewowies (talk) 06:49, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@~2026-36615-10 One possibility is to use "edit source" before doing Ctrl F. Unlike the standard browser-based search which only looks at the article text as rendered, the Wiki software now opens a search-and-replace dialogue and finds all instances of the search string (case insensitive). If you do that, you'll find two instances of "3D" in that article's source code which are within URL. I dislike this behaviour as I would prefer the software not to hijack the Ctrl F shortcut, but that's how it now works... Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:30, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Native searching

    [edit]

I am having a bit of difficulty understanding H:INTITLE.

E.g., intitle:/\(academic\)/ (search), works (wonderfully) to isolate a particular disambiguator in titles and only show results containing exactly that ('(academic)' in this example). I saw someone else link one this one way and have been emulating it. I do not understand why intitle:/(academic)/ (search) or even the more basic intitle:(academic) does not work. Something to do with "metacharacters" being in play, I presume?

Most importantly, I do not understand why or how the excellent solution that I have found works (and I would very much like to, because I may be able to adapt it to other uses with that knowledge). Thanks, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 06:59, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Godsy: intitle:/.../ makes a regex search on .... Parentheses are indeed meta characters with special meaning in regex so you have to escape them by placing a backslash in front like intitle:/\(academic\)/ if you want to search for the literal characters instead of applying the special meaning. Without going into details about the special meaning, it has no effect in intitle:/(academic)/ so it becomes the same search as intitle:/academic/. intitle:(academic) is not surrounded by slashes so it's not a regex search but a normal search. Many special characters including parentheses are ignored in normal searches so it's the same search as intitle:academic. If you make insource searches instead of intitle then note that regex is expensive by itself and may time out or use excessive server resources so it's best to combine it with a non-regex search like insource:academic insource:/\(academic\)/. intitle:academic intitle:/\(academic\)/ is also possible but it matters less here. I realised the Btrfs article is missing the logo ( https://archive.kernel.org/oldwiki/btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/File:Btrfs_logo.svg.html ). I can not upload it to commons, as it is neither CC nor PD licensed. However, as I am the original designer of the logo, i can grant wikipedia the rights to use it. What is the proper procedure for this?

On the kernel wiki page, 17 years ago, I linked the original SVG file on my personal server, located at http://lomm.es/pub/misc/btrfs_logo.svg which is still there - should i perhaps upload a http://lomm.es/pub/misc/btrfs_logo.txt file with some licensing text to prove i am the actual author? Or is there another more elegant way? Cheers, Lommes (talk) 07:27, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lommes. Given that you seem to be asking about a copyrighted logo, you can, if you want, upload the logo to Commons using one of the licenses described in c:COM:L and c:COM:CC as long as you're the sole copyright holder of the logo, and then send a c:COM:CONSENT email or use the c:COM:RELGEN to provide verification of you're copyright holder status. However, before you do this, you might want to take a look at c:COM:LJ, c:COM:REUSE and c:COM:ENFORCE for reference.
Another option would be to upload the logo locally to English Wikipedia as non-free content; you can do this using the WP:UPLOAD wizard. Non-free content use is subject to Wikipedia's non-free content use policy; so, there are more restrictions placed on it than a file uploaded to Commons, but there should be no problem using the logo in the main infobox of the Btrfs article. One thing to remember, though, is that regardless of where and how you upload the file, Wikipedia or Commons will just be hosting the file and won't be able to stop someone from downloading the file and using it in some way that you might not want. In other words, you're not transfering the copyright of the logo to Wikipedia or any other third-party per se; so, you'll be responsible for enforcing your copyright of the logo. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:28, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly thank you very much for your answer. I can not possibly release the logo under a free and permissive license to everyone, as this would violate my commitments to the btrfs community, back when i created the logo. I could give Wikimedia/Wikipedia a narrow license (e.g. "I hereby grant all Wikimedia projects a non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license...") for the purposes of this encyclopedia and its sister project. Is this possible?
If not, I will upload it as non-free content, as per your description. I am aware that potential copyright violations are my problem, not yours. Cheers, Lommes (talk) 09:18, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Commons doesn't accept any restrictions such as "no derivatives" or "non-commercial only", so your only option will be the local non-free approach. WP:LOGO has some details. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:10, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull - Thank you very much for your answer. Accordingly, I have uploaded the logo to File:Btrfs logo wikipedia.svg - I hope it is okay as is. I guess, but am not completely sure, the WP:COI rules don't apply here, as I am not adding any interpretation or commentary or opinion or point of view or similar to the article, merely the logo (of which I am the author/designer). Beyond creating the logo, I have no further affiliation with the btrfs project. Lommes (talk) 12:54, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was going to add your logo to the infobox of Btrfs for you but the template {{infobox file system}} used in that article doesn't have an image or a logo field. So someone more expert than me will have to do it! Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:11, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull - I have now added it as an image below the infobox. Do you know where i can ask regarding the infobox image? Template:Infobox_OS has a logo option. Cheers, Lommes (talk) 13:38, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Lommes You can ask on the Talk Page of the template, maybe WP:PINGing editors who originally created it. Or wait for User:PrimeHunter who is often around this Help desk and is an expert on that sort of thing. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:43, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Lommes: {{Infobox file system}} has no image parameter. I checked the source code which sometimes reveals undocumented parameters. There is also no infobox-wide parameter intended for other purposes which can be hijacked to display a logo. I have placed the logo in a separate infobox above the normal infobox so it looks more similar to our normal layout.[2] It's not ideal but I think it's better than before. I don't know how common it is to have a suitable image for a file system but it has never been requested on Template talk:Infobox file system and I'm not going to add a parameter for one article. Hi,

Anyone can help me? A company which is 25 years old company they want their website to be published on wikipedia and my brothers works in that company he need my help in publishing the company page. But i swear i am not paid in anyway. Is there a way if company is big has global presence then it can be listen in wikipedia? I am new here so dont know but want to become senior editor here because as per my knowledge there are many things wrong published in the wikipedia i would like to contribute in my free time. Sm92334 (talk) 08:25, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Sm92334 Wikipedia is not a place for promotion of any kind. By policy, we only have articles about topics we consider notable in a quite specific way: basically that reliable published sources unconnected with the company has written about it. As a new editor, it will be difficult for you to draft a suitable article. This is compounded by the fact that you are in some respects taking on your brother's conflict of interest if you are only doing the drafting because he works there. Read the links I've added and then give us the three best sources you have. We can advise further. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:19, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the reply sir. Even if the article does not get published, no worries, I was just trying to help my younger brother and as a future editor i wanted to understand rules. I will start with understanding how Wikipedia works internally then will start.

It was a germany based company operating since 1995 and now operating globally. If you want i will paste full details. So seniors can check if it is correct or not. Like please give me link where i can draft so that seniors can check. Don't worry even if its wrong I will learn from the mistakes. Thanks once again sir.

for example visit through this page:
    Teltonika
The reference of it kindly similar with no byline. I took references from it and searched in google.
and i found some other pages too like that with no byline or author names. But they are there. No worries. I will research more.
But just provide me perfect example of any reference for any brand please. That will really help in accessing future article edits in wiki. If i approved wrong article someday then i may get banned so as senior editor kindly help me. ~2026-36923-49 (talk) 11:13, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
also in express computer I have seen byline with the name express computers sometime group of journalists or editors post under that same name because many times they may change media company example some journalists keep changing media agencies so sometimes media company create a common account under which editors can post content may be that could be the reason sir. Also it is not possible to create author account for each editor journalist in famous national level media agency. There will be so many. Only senior editors are allowed to have a author account. Sm92334 (talk) 11:24, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello, @Sm92334.
Teltonika is one of many articles which, if it were submitted for review, would not be accepted, as it does not have a single source which meets all the requirements in WP:42. Most of the sources that appear to be independent are CORPTRIV, and are almost certainly based on press releases.
It looks as if @Lauralastrada, who created it last month, has a common but wrong idea that if an article exists in other Wikipedias, it must be acceptable in English Wikipedia.
I have tagged it as needing third-party sources, and probably not a notable company, but I am not interested enough to go looking for sources in order to nominate it for deletion.
Its relevance to you, Sm92334, is that we evaluate every article on its own merits, not by comparison with other articles, as we have thousands and thousands of articles which are seriously substandard and should be improved or deleted - but most editors (like me) are not interested in doing that job.
If you want to compare an article, choose one which is a good article or a featured article. ColinFine (talk) 15:31, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Just a genuine question about MikroTik - over 100 citations are of themselves by themselves (mikrotik.com) - should this practise be flagged? Lauralastrada (talk) 10:37, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have been a working journalist for decades, and I cannot imagine a scenario in which my name goes uncredited on something I write, especially for so frivolous a reason such as "it is not possible to create an author account for each journalist." If a publication is actually unable to properly credits its writers, I would have serious doubts about its credibility as an outlet for actual journalism. CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 07:03, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As a Senior Account Manager, I was responsible for creating and approving author accounts. We also occasionally onboarded trainees and interns, as well as new joiners who might leave after a short period. In some cases, before their accounts were officially created, we would have them practice using existing publications or allow them to publish articles under the supervision and accounts of their senior team members. But I do understand some publications works differently. ~2026-37443-33 (talk) 08:06, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Splice

    [edit]

Does the page Splice (ice cream) classify as unreferenced? I noticed that there are very little references for the page's length, (most flavour names and release date are unreferenced). So is it unreferenced? Bells899 (talk) 10:17, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Bells899 Well, it has references but by modern standards has fewer than are needed for verification and to confirm notabilty. This seems to have been recognised since 2009. Review assistance requested for Draft:Milet Mihemed

    [edit]

    Hello,

I would like to request a review for "Draft:Milet Mihemed". The draft has been properly formatted and submitted via the Articles for Creation (AfC) process, and it is currently waiting in the queue.

The article strictly adheres to Wikipedia's encyclopedic tone and avoids any promotional language or puffery. It focuses objectively on the author's published works and literary career, backed by highly reliable, verifiable, and international authority records, including:

    • The Library of Congress (LOC)
    • The Virtual International Authority File (VIAF)
    • WorldCat global library database
    • Academic library holdings (such as UC Berkeley's Doe Library)

Since the draft is fully prepared, neutral, and meets all Wikipedia notability guidelines for authors, I would highly appreciate it if an experienced editor or reviewer could take a look and assist in moving it from the draft space to the main article space.

Thank you very much for your time and help. ~2026-36657-40 (talk) 11:57, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this has enough sourcing to meet WP:BIO. Some of the sources, such as the Amazon page, are not reliable secondary sources. What is needed is secondary sourcing that discusses the subject in some detail, rather than simply listing or mentioning him.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 12:10, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c) You submitted your draft for review only a week ago. It will be reviewed in due course. However it will certainly be declined as none of your sources establishes that the subject is notable. You will need to find multiple sources that provide significant coverage of this person. Routine library catalogue entries will not suffice. Shantavira|feed me 12:18, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Ianmacm and Shantavira, for pointing this out. I appreciate your guidance on the need for secondary, independent coverage to establish regional notability under WP:BIO.
To fulfill this requirement, the subject's career and books have been covered in significant detail by independent cultural and news organizations in the region. Since these are in Kurdish, they are well-documented on the Kurdish Wikipedia language editions, drawing from reliable regional documentation and literary festivals:
    * Kurmanji Kurdish edition: https://ku.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milet_Mihemed
    * Sorani Kurdish edition: https://ckb.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%85%DB%8C%D9%84%D9%84%DB%95%D8%AA_%D9%85%D8%AD%DB%95%D9%85%D9%85%DB%95%D8%AF
    * Wikidata: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q123248063
These articles include independent secondary sources that provide substantial biographical and literary coverage rather than simple catalog entries. Given that Kurdish contemporary literature has minimal coverage in Western secondary media, these non-English institutional and journalistic references represent the primary reliable secondary sources available for establishing notability. I will ensure these are better integrated into the draft references as well. Thank you! Kurd26 (talk) 13:19, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello, @Kurd26.
There is no point in telling us about other-language Wikipedia examples, as each Wikipedia has its own policies and procedures, and the English Wikipedia is said to be one of the strictest about referencing.
Non-English sources (and offline sources) may be cited: what matters is whether they meet all the criteria in WP:42. "Substantial biographical and literary coverage" does not help if it is ultimately written by the subject, or by people associated with the subject.
If your draft does cite non-English sources, this may make it take longer to get reviewed, as it will be more work for a reviewer (unless they speak Kurdish). You can help by making sure your citations include a translation of the title of the source, and ideally a translation of the text that verifies the relelvant information in the article: see WP:NONENG. ColinFine (talk) 17:05, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't post this in multiple places; it's already been discussed at Wikipedia:Teahouse#Is Galawêj Festival a "major award" for WP:ANYBIO #1?. Also, the draft has received a review; Athanelar has rejected it. SomeoneDreaming (talk) 01:24, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello again, @Modifications organiques.
In my view there's entirely too much WP:CORPTRIV in this article.
A Wikipedia article should be a neutral summary of what the majority of people who are wholly unconnected with the subject have independently chosen to publish about the subject in reliable publications, (see Golden rule) and not much else. What you know (or anybody else knows) about the subject is not relevant except where it can be verified from a reliable published source. ColinFine (talk) 19:24, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Articles not showing up on search engines

    [edit]

Articles I've written aren't showing up as a result on Google months after being published-- the only one that does so far is my article on achievement hunting, which also happens to be the only article I've submitted to AfC. This surprised me since Wikipedia articles are usually one of the first things to show up when looking up something. Is the fact I'm not submitting the articles to AfC correlated to them not showing up on Google? NP (talk) 15:35, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Articles can only be indexed by search engines if they have been marked as reviewed by a New Pages Patroller, or 90 days have passed. 331dot (talk) 15:52, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
NPP has a severe backlog at the moment, so it's likely to be the latter that allows indexing. 331dot (talk) 15:53, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, that makes sense. Thank you for letting me know NP (talk) 15:55, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
NP2026 If you submit an article to AfC the reviewer may do the NPP check at the same time. TSventon (talk) 16:01, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That would probably explain why the article I submitted to AfC was indexed. Thanks for letting me know, I don't know much about how NPP works. NP (talk) 16:08, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@NP2026: The other articles at https://xtools.wmcloud.org/pages/en.wikipedia.org/NP2026#0 aren't 90 days yet so they still have noindex but note that Wikipedia:Controlling search engine indexing#Indexing of articles ("mainspace") says: "After indexing is allowed, some external search engines like Google may discover this quickly if any edit (except an unlogged null edit) is made to the page. Otherwise it may take a long time." PrimeHunter (talk) 22:23, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Paying third party to establish my Wiki page

    [edit]

Hi, I have been contacted by a third party to create a wiki page for me, a retired academic. They have requested much info from me, and want to charge me $2800 for the job. Do you think this is legit?

Hi William, thanks for asking us. This is a scam, and a very common one. Absolutely no real Wikipedia editor would request payment for creating an article here. If you were to pay this person, they may well not create anything, and if they did create an article it would likely not meet our rules and would be deleted - and then they'd try charge you more money to avoid the deletion! Helping an organization update its page

    [edit]

Hi, I'm writing on behalf of a nonprofit that has a Wikipedia page but a lot of the information is incorrect and it's also not really positioned in a way to articulate what the organization does and why. Is there a way to update the page with credible, referenced sources to describe what they do, their policy positions, and research data about their positions? ~2026-37068-57 (talk) 19:18, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Please review conflict of interest, and, if applicable. paid editing. You may use the edit request process to propose edits to the article about the organization. Note that the main purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources say about the topic, not what it wants to say about itself or a mere description of its activities. 331dot (talk) 20:15, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a way to update the page with credible, referenced sources to describe what they do, their policy positions, and research data about their positions? In short, no. This would be promotion. A Wikipedia article, especially an article for a company, should be a summary of what is written about the company in reliable sources completely unaffiliated with the company. The goal is not to tell us what the organization does and why. Athanelar (talk) 04:13, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Tagging a newly-registered editor in a delete/merge/move discussion

    [edit]

I suspect shenanigans are afoot in a couple of split/move discussions; specifically the comments added by a newly-registered editor who seems familiar. I can't place my finger on exactly who they are, so no sockpuppet accusation for now, but what I would like to do is tag the comment in the discussion to highlight to the other editors that this is a newly-registered account. I seem to remember that there is a template for this very purpose but I cannot remember what it is. Can anyone advise please? Thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 08:39, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Should this article be nominated for speedy deletion?

    [edit]

Hi everyone, I am reviewing this article and noticed that it does not contain any references or reliable sources to verify the information. I feel this article might be a candidate for speedy deletion (CSD) due to a lack of signficant coverage or notability. Before taking any action, I wanted to ask for your thoughts. Is it better to nominate it for speedy deletion, or should we give it time for sources to be added? Thanks! ~~~~ Botempa (talk) 14:54, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It has a promotional tone, and it's in article space, clearly promotional and, as you say, sources are not RS. May be LLM too, but I've deleted as G11 here. Disruptive editing without resolution

    [edit]

Hi. So I've had a dispute with another editor here Talk:The Alternative (Denmark)#Infobox. I tried to ping other editors of the page on talk to get more responses but no resolution came about. I then took the matter to the Dispute resolution noticeboard and got nothing. The other editor involved, FellowMellow, constantly ignored Wikipedia guidelines I brought up that they are breaking, such as WP:OTHERSTUFF, WP:RSPYT, WP:SYNTH, WP:UNDUE and WP:ONUS. Whenever I have tried to remove the information they have added they edit war it back in, which is flagrant violation of WP:ONUS. They have been allowed to get away with this behaviour as no one seems to be addressing it. I'm honestly tired of going through these routes of pinging others, starting the talk page discussion, explaining to them multiple times in said discussion and edit summaries and going to the Dispute resolution noticeboard without anyone acknowledging or doing anything about them breaking these guidelines and just allowed to carry on acting like this. Helper201 (talk) 15:55, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Helper201, if you've already been to dispute resolution and that hasn't helped, and you're not getting any useful action on the talk page, and you're quite sure you've done your best to work with the other editor, the next step is to make a report at WP:ANI. From the quick look I had at the talk page earlier, though, neither of you have really tried "calmly explain your position to the other editor", and I'd certainly suggest that before heading to ANI. In solidarity, asilvering (talk) 23:01, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Asilvering thank you for your response. I have tried to explain this to the other editor multiple times on the talk page and via edit summaries. I'm honestly really not sure how I could this any differently. Helper201 (talk) 01:36, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
My read of the discussion is that you start out pretty hot. Lots of people get defensive if you start with comments phrased like this one, so it's not really surprising that the other editor responded impatiently in kind. If you'll take some advice, I'd suggest that in the future you do more explaining of your own position and less pointing at guidelines, especially "so-and-so broke the guidelines"-type statements. (They're guidelines, not immutable laws, anyway.) I do think that calmly explaining your position without accusing the other editor of doing something wrong is worth trying. If they just say the same thing again, well, you tried. There's always ANI. In solidarity, asilvering (talk) 05:56, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, the main thing to remember about ANI is this: they are going to blame you for not doing enough to fix the problem yourself; therefore, go fix it yourself. It will be more fun. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 07:18, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle and Ultraviolet both do. You just have to enable one in your preferences. I don't know exactly how Ultraviolet works, but with Twinkle, there will be a little dropdown next to the view history button on someone's talk page. Click that, then warn, then select the warning you'd like to use. I assume Ultraviolet is similar. In solidarity, 🏳️‍🌈JohnLaurens333 (They/themTalk • Contribs) 17:50, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Wikipedia:Twinkle includes functionality that enables more or less that, but I'd strongly advise against anyone with your limited editing history using it for that purpose. Did not allow me to log in 4 times in a row, required a captcha each time, but I have a strong password

    [edit]

Hi, I just tried to log in, and 4 times in a row, I was presented a captcha (which I solved), and after that I got a message that login failed. after doing this dance 4 times, I finally got in. I entered the exact same password 4 times (password manager). Here's the clincher: After I finally got in, I got the message "there were failed login attempts, create a stronger password. my password was generated by my password manager and is very long and strong. Here's what I would like Wikipedia to do: 1. accept my password when I enter it. 2. If you think this is unsafe, implement webAuthN. 3. if you present a captcha and I solve it, accept it. 4. Do not have a hidden intransparent login system where a person has to log in multiple times, get a "denied" message and just have to do this for 5 times and then suddenly get past that blockage. 5. I use iCloud Private Relay and if you don't want you me to edit using that IP, that's fine, but do not prevent people with these IPs from simply logging in. I've been a big wikipedia promoter since year 1 and this combination of roadblocks is very *very* unfortunate. Retselik (talk) 22:46, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Meanwhile, I notice that you don't have an email enabled for your account. I really recommend doing this. It's my understanding that would give you less hcaptcha grief but I might be wrong there (Szymon can correct me, I hope?). As for #2, we do have webAuthN. You'll need to enable this in your settings at Special:AccountSecurity, by enabling 2FA. You can then add Passkey to make things easier and faster. Edits to the article on Gil Lagardere in fr.wikipedia

    [edit]

I have made two edits to the article on Gil Lagardere in fr.wikipedia. I am not fluent in French making the editing difficult. Also, the edits might be sensitive because pornographie is involved. Before the edits, the article listed Lagardere as bisexual, but Lagardere identifies as heterosexual and his early performances in gay films were gay-4-pay. My edits have recently been modified to just state that he is a pornographic performer, and in his gay films the was a paid gay performer, thereby indicating he was gay; he was a straight actor playing a gay part, not a paid gay actor. The also article indicates that he was born in 1955, but I indicated that Lagardere in different forums states he was born in 1959.

So, is there someway I can liaison with someone in fr.wikipedia who also speaks English to see if we can come to an amicable agreement to clarify the two edits? This would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Voyagersf (talk) 23:03, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I am forwarding my question from the article's talk page since I believe nobody is going to see it on there.

The stadium capacity is reportedly 35,000 according to the infobox, but a source in the article instead states it has a capacity of 20,000. Which would be more acceptable; the initial source claiming it has a capacity of 35,000 or AIDDATA (2nd source referenced) claiming it has a capacity of 20,000? Beta Beta Beta - talk 23:18, 27 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The source for 35,000 (a photographer's website) doesn't look particularly reliable to me. I'm uncertain on the reliability of AidData's project descriptions. They do mention (but not link to) a New York Times article about the stadium which might be good to track down. It looks like the 2006 RFI article also says 20,000. So I think you're good to go ahead and update the infobox--but the article could use stronger sourcing in general, as the 2006 RFI article is very short and the Catholic Courier article is not substantial coverage. • But many African governments have let stadiums that were initially a point of pride fall into disrepair. A Chinese-built stadium in the capital of Gabon, Libreville, has been mostly abandoned since it hosted the final of the Cup of Nations in 2017. The Chinese-built national stadium of the Central African Republic, one of the world's poorest countries, cannot even host the games of its own national team.

    John_J._Cafaro

    [edit]

Long time Wiki user/supporter here. An odd situation just arose. Was attempting to learn more about the relationship between Cafaro and Epstein. Asked Google AI and the response was that there was "no connection" between the two men. Other sources stated that they were both neighbors of Mar-a-Lago, spent a lot of time at Mar-a-Lago and shared the same defense lawyer for their respective criminal activities. The Wiki page on Cafaro ( John J. Cafaro ) had the following quote "Cafaro acquired the interest of international predator Jeffrey Epstein following a 2011 indictment for conspiracy and racketeering." When I shared that quote with Google AI through numerous questions, the very lengthy response was essentially, a.) the Wiki link I sent them was a fake Wiki page, b.) there is no such quote about Cafaro on the Wiki page, and c.) the Wiki link I was viewing was likely a "sandbox or user draft" or A "hallucinated Web URL". When I asked Google AI if Wiki needed to be alerted to the possibility that the Google Search engine was sending users to a fake site for the "Wiki John J Cafaro" page or they might have been hacked, the response was "No", that was not necessary since Wiki had built in precautions against that type of manipulation of their content. Questions: Is John J. Cafaro the correct Wiki link for Cafaro? Is the quote "Cafaro acquired the interest of international predator Jeffrey Epstein following a 2011 indictment for conspiracy and racketeering" actually on the Wiki page? If the above are true, why would Google AI provide such a lengthy, strong response that this page and quote do not exist? Thanks. ~2026-37335-85 (talk) 08:39, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the edit history, the article was edited to add an unsourced statement that seems to be what the AI picked up. The unsourced statement has been removed as a violation of our Biographies of Living Persons policy. 331dot (talk) 08:52, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As to why Google's AI did that, you would need to contact Google to know for certain; it may have said that because the statement no longer is present, but it knows that it was. 331dot (talk) 08:54, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That sentence about a connection between Cafaro and Epstein was added about four hours ago to the lead section of the article. I have removed it. The lead is supposed to summarize more detailed coverage in the body. The connection is not described in the body. Substantive assertions in a biography of a living person need to be cited to a reliable source, especially contentious claims. The assertion was unreferenced. I cannot explain why Google AI gave you the response it did, except to advise you to be skeptical of anything that artificial "intelligence" tells you. Cullen328 (talk) 08:55, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There is a lot of speculation and rumor mongering about a connection between Cafaro and Epstein swirling around on social media because of Cafaro's colorful criminal background and connection to Trump through the Reflecting Pool controversy. Wikipedia does not traffic in rumors so that must be excluded from the article unless impeccably reliable sources provide evidence of something malicious. I would recommend looking for reliable sources, checking they meet the Wikipedia:General notability guideline and then writing the article based on what they say. Help:Your first article has lots of advice.
Also you need to acknowledge that the article is translated from Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Translation. I have done this for you. TSventon (talk) 15:13, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah so i tried it on another article with this time adding the tranlated template an dthe article is Vasile Alecsandri Street. Also note when could someone have the permision to do the wikidata? Thx for replying Bermensterflora (talk) 17:05, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Bermensterflora, I recommend checking notability before starting an article, even a translation. Otherwise the new article is likely to be tagged for deletion as your two new street articles have, which is frustrating for everybody involved. Other Wikipedias have different rules so a translated article may not be notable on English Wikipedia and may not meet our requirements for references. Italics for translated titles

    [edit]

I am doing some work requiring translation of titles of works such as songs and chapters into English from another language. Minor works are normally shown in quotation marks and not italicised, per MOS:NAT. I want to show both the English-language title, and use the {{lang}} template for the foreign-language title. That template italicises by default, indicating foreign-language text. Should the foreign-language title be italicised to indicate a foreign language, or should I use |italic=no to suppress italics, and use quote marks to indicate a minor work? Masato.harada (talk) 17:02, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Assessment Tool

    [edit]

Could you please let me know which assessment tool was used for this article? I'd like to review the results myself and better understand the basis for the assessment. Hirematviru (talk) 17:31, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Which article? AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:42, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Just out of curiosity what tools do you use when assessing articles? I'd like to learn how experienced editors evaluate notability and sourcing both for articles I've created and for other articles i may review assemenet in the future. Hirematviru (talk) 17:44, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hirematviru, you may mean Wikipedia:New pages patrol, you can see some instructions they follow on that page. Similarly, there are Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing instructions at AfC. I am not involved at NPP or AfC, so I don't have access to any specialised tools there.
If I am writing an article myself, I try to satisfy the WP:General notability guideline (WP:NORG is a stricter version for organisations). TSventon (talk) 18:40, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Parsoid error.

Woah, now I can't create or edit any pages on Wikipedia because of this damn error, with the following text: Parsoid error

Is Wikipedia hacked again, or this a bug? VitorFriboquen :] (Talk) 20:28, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Vitorperrut555, you've just told the world of your inability to edit any page on Wikipedia by ... editing this page on Wikipedia. I haven't been told of any "parsoid error". Does "Grafana" say anything of use or interest? -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 01:49, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
To my understanding, Parsoid is more connected to VisualEditor than the source editor. (Granted, I don't know much about VisualEditor or Parsoid or errors related to either of them.) It would stand to reason they might have avoided the error here because they couldn't use VisualEditor in this namespace but are only experiencing it in mainspace, potentially more likely, since the majority of their edits to mainspace not done via tools like HotCat or Twinkle are tagged as visual edits. - Purplewowies (talk) 09:14, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Would like some guidance on the best way to format a list on an article I've been contributing to

    [edit]

    This list is pretty unsightly. It's currently formatted using this: {{columns-list|colwidth=15em| Lorem Ipsum dolor sit amet}}

It seems that this just packs in as many columns as it can in the horizontal space and its not very legible. Making the entire list a single column would probably make it excessively long, but at the same time the content is not long enough to justify its own article. So I'm a little confused how to proceed. Would an experienced editor kindly weigh in?

    Plebian poblano (talk) 20:44, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Plebian poblano: Just play around with the |colwidth= parameter and preview until the list looks the way you prefer. In the case of Ergative–absolutive alignment#Caucasus and Near East, changing it to 35em (and deleting the carriage return before the last "Sorani" ref) makes a 2-column list that looks OK to me. Referencing errors on Bani Walid

    [edit]

Reference help requested. Hello Helpdesk, A recent edit of mine on Bani Walid resulted in the following reference causing a URL error:

I tried to check, but it's a dead link, indeed the whole domain seems unresponsive, and there seems to be no archive copy of the page... Any suggestions, please?

    Thanks, Yadsalohcin (talk) 22:43, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    The original url was written:
http://www.7ou.edu.ly/hedc/souj/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=131:misurata-university-profile-&catid=34:university-profile-&Itemid=28 (this edit by Editor Orlady)
That url was changed to this:
http://www.7ou.edu.ly/hedc/souj/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=131:Bani Walid-university-profile-&catid=34:university-profile-&Itemid=28 (this edit by an IP editor)
That url is malformed because it includes a space character between 'Bani' and 'Walid' so that version of the url would never have worked correctly. MediaWiki does not emit error messages for malformed urls; anything after the first space character is considered to be the display text for the external link:
    [https://example.com Example]Example
    so,
    Walid-university-profile-&catid=34:university-profile-&Itemid=28
would have been treated as display text. You can see that in this Wayback machine snapshot (ref #3).
{{cite web}} does not want to see space characters in what should be a pure url. Upon finding a space character it emits the Check |url= value message. You might replace the space character with %20 to suppress the error message. Or replace that template with {{citation needed}}.
    Trappist the monk (talk) 23:37, 28 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Trappist the monk, Thanks for this- looks like it's 'citation needed' territory. - Yadsalohcin (talk) 07:51, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Need help with Draft:Harsh Roshan - notable actor with 11 reliable sources

    [edit]

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Harsh_Roshan

    Hi everyone,

I recently created an article for Telugu actor Harsh Roshan, but it was moved to draftspace by another user due to notability concerns. However, I have already included 11 reliable sources (including references from The Hindu, Cinema Express, and The New Indian Express) to prove his notability.

Could someone please check my draft (Draft:Harsh Roshan) and help me understand what else is needed, or assist me in moving it back to the article space?

Thank you so much for your help! Botempa (talk) 03:39, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Botempa, this is about an actor. But despite your amassing of "11 reliable sources", you don't provide any description (or evaluation) of the man's acting from any one of the eleven. This surprising absence is particularly conspicuous, as with "mixed critical reviews regarding its thematic depth" and "lukewarm and critical response" you summarize commentary on what he has appeared in (but not commentary on his appearances). -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 04:03, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the helpful feedback. I have now updated the draft with specific critical evaluations of Harsh Roshan's acting performances from the referenced reviews (including Cinema Express and The New Indian Express). Could you please check it now? Botempa (talk) 04:21, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You typed some material, but you did not footnote to show which source you got each idea from. We can't have "Trust me, it's all somewhere in my eleven sources, readers will just have to guess" TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 04:31, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, TooManyFingers. I understand the issue now. I have successfully updated the draft by properly linking each evaluation to its respective footnote source ([12], [13], and [14]). Could you please review it now? Botempa (talk) 04:41, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can tell, these sources merely mention his name and what character he played - they barely say anything about Roshan himself and his acting. I think they aren't really analyzing his work.
The best we can hope for is several multi-page articles where each article is called "The Career of Harsh Roshan" or something like that. But even if we don't have it that good, we need to see multiple places where he is the topic of the reporter's analysis - not just a mention that he was in the show. Wikipedia disappeared from search options on googlr

    [edit]

I don’t want to add a topic. I type in a topic & google brings up grokapedia instead of Wikipedia; example one, “Robert Sylvester author/screenwriter”; example two “Rochellois Protestant.” Where is Wikipedia when I need it? You’ve been silenced by Musk. ~2026-37364-69 (talk) 03:52, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Your filter bubble may be different from mine. For me, Wikipedia continues to be available (even via Google) at wikipedia.org, where it continues to babble away pretty much as it did before the proliferation of far-right alternatives. -- Hoary (talk)WWU 👍︎ 04:11, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
For the first one, we don't yet have an article on that person, so Grokipedia will show high up in search rankings. The second I can't explain - I don't get Grokipedia at all in my results for that search. In solidarity, asilvering (talk) 08:52, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Need a pre-review check for Draft:Sandun Perera - Sri Lankan singer

    [edit]

    Draft:Sandun Perera#

    Hi everyone,

I have created a draft for Sri Lankan pop singer Sandun Perera (Draft:Sandun Perera) and included 5 reliable sources from major national newspapers like Lankadeepa and Mawbima.

Before I officially submit it for review, could someone please check this draft and let me know if there are any specific improvements or missing elements needed to ensure it meets the notability guidelines?

Thank you so much for your guidance! Botempa (talk) 04:58, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It is (again) missing lengthy opinions of the quality of Sandun Perera's work, given by reliable reporters. When sources are reliable but they don't give long opinions about the person's work, those sources become (almost) worthless. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 05:14, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I can prove that I have performed hundreds of times in front of large audiences. Proving that there are performances and recordings is useless, until we show that important critics had a lot to say about them afterwards. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 05:21, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
What a mess. @Botempa Please refrain from moving pages without first learning a bit more about how it works. You've moved this back and forth to draftspace and mainspace under multiple different titles: it's technically still being discussed at AfD under the old title Sandun Perera Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sandun Perera and now after asking this question you've again moved it back to mainspace at Sandun Perera (singer) (with a daisy chain of redirects back to Sandun Perera (Musician) and Draft:Sandun Perera). You certainly shouldn't have moved the page while it was being discussed at AfD, and the rest has only made it worse.
I'm going to move it back to draftspace and put a submission template on it. Please submit it for review and then don't touch it, if it's suitable for mainspace then a reviewer will approve it and put it where it should be. And read a little bit about page moving at WP:MOVE and maybe practice in your userspace before you carry out any more page moves. Athanelar (talk) 07:06, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know this and didn't check. From my quick look at it, I expect the result will be to delete. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 07:09, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Considering the deletion discussion was now pointed at a page that was one of a chain of way too many redirects, I've just draftified the page and procedurally closed the AfD. Not sure if that was the best solution, but I think it's the easiest. Athanelar (talk) 07:11, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I am an editor from Sri Lanka. I want to clarify that my intention is only to improve Wikipedia by writing about Sri Lankan and South Indian personalities. I admit that I sometimes used AI assistance for translation and drafting because English is not my native language. However, I always made sure to include reliable references and verifiable sources for all the information.I apologize for the mess created by moving pages between draftspace and mainspace. I am still learning the complex page-moving guidelines. I will stop using AI tools immediately and will not move any more pages without proper guidance. Please guide me on how to fix my mistakes instead of blocking me. Thank you Botempa (talk) 07:36, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Updating a Wikipedia page

    [edit]

Hello, I have attempted twice to update the Wikipedia page (using source editor) for John Ellice-Flint. Each time I've done this and published the changes, I receive a little message in the top right corner of the page saying the changes have been saved, but when I go back to check, the page for John has reverted to the original. There is no promotional material in the update for John, it is purely a summary of his oil and gas experience and community life. ~2026-35036-91 (talk) 05:26, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It seems you have probably been putting things in because you know they're true. On Wikipedia you can't do that. Only things that have already been published by reliable third parties are allowed. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 05:44, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(This essentially means that if someone's activities have not, broadly speaking, "made the news", those activities will never appear on Wikipedia either.) TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 05:50, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The article John Ellice-Flint has thin sourcing and is probably on the borderline of meeting WP:BIO guidelines anyway. Looking at the revision history, there was an obvious problem with WP:PEACOCK with the material that was reverted. See also WP:BOSS.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:09, 29 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Image with text formatting

    [edit]

Hi, I'm every few months seeing problems with formatting for this image. The words on the eastern part of the map consistently get cluttered, maybe as different editors tweak it. Do others see this as well? Presumably, different user interfaces can produce different graphics. Is there any best way to format the image so that the text is the least likely to end up cluttered?
