further, i have a section in my resume called ‘independent research’ true. this may be misleading to some, but i clearly indicate that this is not a job but exactly as titled ‘independent research’. this frequently applies to work that i will be doing down the road in which those projects directly apply.

i always save some questions for the senior management. as some folks are; i am multi-disciplined as EE, RF, and software automation engineer. tools i use to program configure and test all matters of devices, modules, prototypes and products at all stages of release.

yes, there are new tools always coming around, but there are disagreements as well on what works what does not work; proof is in the pudding. i make demos that i bring to interview that demonstrate these concepts in practice. then, instead of focusing on boring theory i have a live, demo that we can interact with; that way there is a point of discussion. right there. however that does not work either due the employer’s interview format.

First they ask deep questions on technology. Rest fall in later.

Right in the feels bro. I know how you feel! The good thing here is that you are taking the imitative, doing the work and dealing with clients. I’m sure all this experience wouldn’t go in vain. Stay strong and keep at it! We are in the same boat 🙂

Yes, being a “great problem solver” and being able to learn quickly SHOULD be enough but that doesn’t square with reality. One should never make the error of confusing “ought” is “is”.
Incidentally, being a “great problem solver” and learning fast ARE, I believe, usually sufficient for jobs in management which is why I advise all young technical people to have a career plan that leads either to management or owning their own company.
Best,
Phil

I thought, to become an expert developer, I need to improve my programming skills. But after reading your article, I realized, like programming, other skills (problem solving, dealing with others, creative thinking) are also required to become an expert developer. I got a valuable information from your post. Thanks for sharing such great post with us. Keep it up. http://www.keenesystems.com/HireAspnetProgrammer.aspx

It is actually because of the increasing amount of frameworks, that solving problems is becoming easier. These days, companies prefer developers how know millions of frameworks that can solve the problem than low level developers who can think outside the square.

Or is it all predetermined by someone else? Is this aspect part of the “naming things” that is mentioned in this article? Or is it merely just coming up with snazzy titles for things like buttons and labels?
