Hey! If you don’t mind, 3years+ are passed, and could I ask you, how did it go?

We lucked out with a great meeting location and a void in the .NET meetup space.

Custom software development focusing on high quality line of business applications and systems integration. We’ll also be offering individual and team training around TDD, Clean Code, and Professionalism.

That’s awesome, @6figuredev:disqus. “Meat space” groups are tough to get going, but if you can make it work there’s no better way to establish yourself as an authority and build relationships…

What services are you going to be offering in your consulting biz?

We’ve since started a blog together, organized the St Pete .NET Meetup, and have plans to start a consulting business soon. The first two have been a big help in putting us on the track for the 3rd. Marketing ourselves is going to be key in making the business a reality.

Since, you are starting things out, I would recommend to take some courses first to build your base. You can check udacity, courseera, w3schools, code academy for tutorials on your intersets. You can also try any freelancing websites and check the projects related to your interest. You will get an understanding of what skills you need.

This is a hard question to answer in a comment, but I would say start by figuring out what you want to create then try and create it and see what you need to know to do it. It seems like very basic advice, but too many people learn too many things unrelated to what they are actually trying to do.

I am a novice and learning HTML & CSS. I would like to become a software developer and move into mobile apps but I have no idea where to start and what skills I should acquire first to get a job in the field? Any help or names of communities that I could join would be greatly appreciated.
